Dear Customers, We would like to inform you about a change in the Icelandic tax system, introduced from January 1, 2026 – a new road tax of ~ 7 ISK per driven kilometer.
How does it work?
- The charge is calculated based on the actual mileage (we check the odometer upon vehicle return).
- It is added to the final invoice – no hidden costs.
Why this change?
- It replaces part of the previous fuel tax, thanks to which petrol and diesel prices will drop significantly.
- For a typical trip (e.g. 1000 km), this is an additional cost of approx. 7000 ISK.
Benefits:
- Cheaper refueling during your trip around Iceland.
